Two balls short

Yes, I’m two balls sort with the Caftan pullover. Never mind. I knew this is going to be my most expensive project ever, so two or three more balls will not matter. I’ve been searching the net for an economic solution, and I think I have found the best source on Ebay. With 5,40 per ball, this is the best price.

I think I will order three, just to make sure I will have enough.

In the meantime I have started a cute crochet purse for my new purse frames:

Now that I see it, mine is somehow fuller. Hmmm….. I might doing something wrong. I’m already using the second ball of cotton, and still in the middle of the purse. Hahh. Never mind. It will still look good.

Colorwork

My first colorwork was the hat I have published here in one of my first posts, and ever since I keep thinking about making something coloured again. But this time something different. Fair Isle is something that requires more confidence than I’ve got so far.

And guess what I have found:

Yes. Amazing, isn’t it? It doesn’t look too complicated, but the results are just breathtaking. Looks like a quilt, doesn’t it? And I love the colours as well, I will try to make it in the exact same colors. I haven’t yet purchased the pattern, because I know I would drop everything to start it, and this would not be wise now.

I promise myself I will start it this autumn-winter.

I know, I’m terrible to start something new or different every day, but sorry, this is how I work. Sometimes I actually finish one or two things, so it is not that bad….

And this reminded me of the caftan pullover: well, I can assure you it is going along fine! I’m about to bind of the last stitches from the front, and then I can start the tricky part: the front cable panels. I still fear that the yarn will not be enough.

Dear Santa, if you still around, please put a few balls of Ultra Silk in your sack. Thank you in advance!

Dog Sweaters

I was going to write about celebrity knitting, but then I saw that there is a lot of articles in this topic. So I dropped the subject. The one I’m going to write about it now is animals in knitted/crochet gear. I know, there is a lot of articles about this too. But I still prefer animals to celebrities. I have a chihuahua – Chili – to knit cute sweaters to. She has one up till now, and hates it. It is the pull over type, and she just hates to put her head into anything. Same with her pull-over harness. I will have to find a nice pattern for a vest type cover up for her for the colder days. But I have time for that, since the weather is just getting warmer. And she is not a sassy, she was always ‘naked’ when I walked her. But when the weather was really cold, she was not yet allowed outside, being too small and without the necessary shots. Now she is fully prepared for the dogs social life.

Nah, this is not Chili. But this doggie is quite similar to her. Chili is more like a tomboy, and pink would not suit her at all.

These are the newest inspirations I have found on the internet. I must make these sometime. Except the knitting hamster, of course

Techniques

Now, if you have all kind of knitting needles (or at least a few of them), and wonder what to do with them, or how to use them at all, there are a lot of helpful sites, where you can learn knitting. From the basics, to the more advanced techniques, there are help for every knitter.

I just found this very useful site, where I finally understood how to wrap and turn the short rows, and there is a lot more! Wheeeeee!

Also, if you take a look around on Youtube, there is a lot of instructions. I’m a visual type, and I prefer to see what I learn, written instructions a bit confusing for me.

But, if I see it, it looks much easier. And the same with other crafts too. On YouTube I could take a peek inside of bead-making and silver art clay techniques.

Even more bags

Yesterday evening I immediately started a bag, which is actually a crochet bag, and it is in a bowling bag style. It is going to be smashing! No pictures yet, but I will add one when it is worth it, or you will be able to see a decent progress. I make it in brown cotton (Cristal Palace cotton), and in a contrast color, but I haven’t yet decided which. Mauve or yellow? We’ll see.

I will have to add a cardboard support to the base, which means I will have to make the base twice as wide as in the pattern, to be able to hold it in half, and hide the cardboard inside. I will use smaller hooks for the sides, to make it strong enough to self support. The closure will be a zipper, and it is going to have two handles, crocheted as well.

I had no time to mine the second hand shops yet, for great bag handles, but I have a few old bags at home, I might go through them this weekend.

Again I wish the day would consist of 48 hours. So many things to do, and so little time…
